BREIF 09: WHISTLES — THE BRAND

Aside from looking into the branded guidelines for Whistles, to start the brief I decided to look at the visual aspects of the Whistles brand, to get a better understanding of what style and presence the company has to refer to for the project.

The Brand

Whistles is a contemporary fashion brand, based in London.

Led by inspiring CEO Jane Shepherdson, Whistles encapsulates an intelligent sense of design with timeless and luxurious pieces. Collections are modern and laid back with an attention to detail and quality.

Since its relaunch in 2008, Whistles has become a wardrobe staple for fashion editors and industry leaders, characterised by its contemporary and effortless style.

"Jane has reinvented this brand… into a sleek directional force to be reckoned with." The Observer

In September 2014, Whistles launched its hotly anticipated debut men’s collection. Contemporary design with modern utility, Whistles menswear is an edited collection that is both considered and versatile, combining understated looks with refined styling; produced to be relevant for work and leisure in the knowledge that what separates those worlds is becoming less defined.

"A tightly edited wardrobe of classic pieces, the collection focuses on longevity and quality rather than flash-in-the-pan trends." The Independent

Social

The brand has a online journal and pinteresttwitter, facebook and instagram pages, with these outlets already defined, for this brief we need to consider how we can expand on them through the use of the campaign.

Instore Presence

The store uses really crips and clean designs, everything is in a regimented order and has strong monochromatic visual appeal.

Online Presence

This also transcends to their online presence and the photography and layout of the products is really clean. If we decide to use our own models and photography, beige and grey backgrounds should be considered for this approach.

Existing items

I also decided to research into some existing packaging and printed material to also get a wider view on the brand, for possible packaging and extended outcome products.

It again still upholds a strong monochromatic approach and square / rectangle based packaging, which is something to consider for the development of the project.

Highlights
  • Monochromatic
  • Square / Rectangle based packaging
  • Simple
  • Minimal
  • Photography based
  • Extensive social media outlets

After highlighting some main features from my research, this can act as another guidelines of considerations for the brief.
