BRIEF 09: PERFUME BRANDS + CAMPAIGNS

This research is looking into existing perfume brands and campaigns that whistles are like and are influenced by. In looking into these brands will help define what we can include for this brief, in terms of product, range, distribution and campaign ideas.

Byredo

Byredo is a Stockholm based fragrance house founded in 2006 by Ben Gorham. Products currently include perfume, body care, home fragrance and accessories.

The styling and photography for this brand is perfect for this brief, this something to definitely consider.

Manifesto

We believe that there are too many bottles of perfume and not enough soulful fragrances. We believe the soul of a fragrance comes from the intention with which it is created and the attention with which it is prepared. We believe fine perfumery must create a shock - the shock of the new, combined with the shock of the intimately familiar.

Le Labo, has a interesting range of perfume bottle shapes and products, I really like the amber glass objects, however i think this wouldn't particularly go with the whistle brief due to their colour pallet being very monochromatic. This is brands range over products is something to consider for this brief to get the most out of it.

The Helmut Lang fashion brand was created by Austrian fashion designer Helmut Lang (born 1956) in 1986. The Helmut Lang brand still exists today, but has been carried on without Lang's involvement since 2005. Three different perfumes were associated with the Helmut Lang label, produced in co-operation with Procter & Gamble.

The print campaign uses a multitude of media, from printed campaigns to videos which really enhances the brand presence. The minimal bottle design is something to consider for this brief.

Jo Malone

The Jo Malone™ Studio orchestrates a world of bespoke luxury that is inspired by, and immersed in, modern British culture, curating collaborations between world-renowned master perfumers and London’s leading creative talent, from Savile Row to Sloane Street. In working with the most forward-thinking style mavens, Jo Malone London is enduringly at the forefront of perfumery.

Although this brand is quite clean and minimal I don't think this brand is the right approach for the style for whistles and the brief however I like the idea of using perfume packaging in the  brief and candles.

Zara similar to whistles is a street store, the branding and design of their fragrances take on a clean aesthetic that works really well, also the lighting and photography of the product shots is something to take into consideration.

Miller Harris

The foundation stone of the Miller Harris brand is precious natural ingredients. Lyn’s unique style comes from her dedication to fragrance. She is unrepentant in her search for new materials, sourcing the best from around the world: iris from Florence, violet leaf from France, jasmine from Egypt, orange flower from Tunisia and sandalwood from the Pacific.

The perfume brand again has really simplistic aesthetic, the floral patterns might be something to consider for the women's fragrance.

Commodity

Com des Gargons

After looking into some existing campaigns that are similar to the whistles brand it has allowed me to see the range, product, promotion and distribution techniques that can be influenced for the brief. I want to consider using really interesting perfume bottles and alternative ways to distribute the campaign weather that be through a video or through a online campaign that can attract an even bigger following behind the whistles brand.
