BRIEF 01: INITIAL LOGO

Reflection on my logo research, for the Orbit logo I wanted to create something that represented movement, travel and culture. I decided to look into the O letterform and consider different ways in which it can be presented. In other cultures the letter O can consist of different accents over the top know as diacritics which I thought was a really interesting contextual and aesthetic feature.

To start my logo I created a series of different outcomes through sketches and developed ideas which can be seen below. I experimented with different weights, shapes and symbols to generate my outcomes.

From my designs I really liked the ô with the circumflex over the top as it looked like a navigation symbol which relates to travel. It is also used in the french language which ties in with the cultural aspect I wanted to include. It also represents 'length and a particular quality' which relates to the time it takes to travel the world and the style of the publication which will hopefully be — quality.

Digital

I then decided to then move towards experimenting and creating some initial digital outcomes for the logo which are detailed below. I wanted to experiment with a typeface that created a perfect circle with the letter O to represent the shape of a globe which again fits in with the contextual purpose of the publication.

For my experiments I played with type — upper and lowercase and also vector. I focused it down to 3 distinctive fonts that I thought worked best which are listed below with my views on how I thought they worked.

1. Cocogoose — I feel that the font is bold and distinctive due to it's weight and will be easy to transfer across a range of media, both print and and digital.

2. Baron neue — I think that the baron neue font is modern and is very legible, however the font does not come in lowercase hence the other variation.

3. Futura — I like how clean this font is and how the  ô looks clearly like a navigation symbol.

Overview

From my outcomes I then decided to get some feedback from my peers to get some opinions on what they thought about my outcomes.
