BREIF 03: COLOUR PALLET

In our initial idea's we wanted to experiment with holographic / iridescent colours within our packaging / promotional material. I decided to research into some excising designs that used this colour pallet as a source of influence. We chose this material as it's fun, fresh and modern and is used a lot in bohemian jewellery and body art.

Pearly Queen

Pearly Queen is a perfect example of how to use these bold colours in a fun and engaging way, I really like how the brand has taken elements from the iridescent tones and transferred that into the other branded material.

Anagrama

The Gist publication by Anagrama uses type, shape and imagery to really take hold of the design, again the publication uses a pale pint which has been used as the cover stock and the models hair and make up.

With using the supplies from university such a foiling this could be a lengthy process and we can't ensure the results would be the same for every product or if the workshops would be available. So I decided to see if we could alternatively use vinyl, if we choose to proceed with this method.

Vinyl

I spoke to James in the print room for some potential stockists of holographic or iridescent vinyl and he recommended this.

Over Brite Vinyl

Pricing £4.95 per metre.

Iridescent Silver

Pricing £7.99 per metre.

Star Vinyl

Iridescent Silver

Pricing £5.99 per metre.

Aside from these online suppliers I will also visit Sydney Beaumont and Major Signs to see if they supply this type of vinyl, which are local Leeds distributors.

Overview

Through this research I have now been able to identify ways in which holographic and iridescent colours can be used for branding. In using such a colourful material to use on our products, myself and Roxie could take colours from the vinyl like pearly queen and other brands to apply it to the stock we use or other materials. I have never used iridescent stock or colours in my work before so this is a very exciting prospect and new experience for myself.
