In my brief the colours consisted of orange, black and white — plus coloured images. The colour orange was chosen because psychologically it represents adventure which links perfectly to the brief. I decided to look into a range of colour pallets and tones I could potentially use on Adobe Kuler.
(Orange Crush)
(Blood Orange)
(Summer Oranges)
(Orange Chrysanthemum)
(Magellen Orange)
(Orange Sea)
From these colours I then focused on the 4 main Orange tones that I could use, listing the CMYK codes for reference.
I will experiment with these colours in my upcoming layouts to see how they work and also consider stock colours.
Type
For the typography for my publication I decided to look into both header fonts for the destination names and also text for body copy. I wanted to specifically focus on san serif fonts as it goes with the tone of voice for the publication which is friendly and informal. I looked into a series of fonts and partnered them together to see which ones worked well together.
I then experimented further by developing these font variations with a destination name and a 'must see' bucket list quote to see how they worked together, I also introduced some colour to also see if it looks well together.
From the variations I felt that 'Apercu' variation was the most strongest out of the variations that I had experimented with. Also 'Apercu' has a list of varying weights which help maintain consistency throughout the book which would be a nice feature. For future work I will be using this font.
